Rajasthan Royals skipper Sanju Samson was fined 30 percent of his match fee after a heated argument with the on-field umpires during the IPL 2024 match against Delhi Capitals on Tuesday. Controversy arose over Samson's dismissal after he was caught in the deep by Shai Hope, but the fielder was too close to the stumps. The third referee ruled in favor of DC, but Samson was not happy with the decision and he ended up arguing with the match officials. The replays showed that the fielder was very close to the ropes and the decision divided the fans and pundits.
“Mr Sanju Samson, Captain, Rajasthan Royals has been fined 30 percent of his match fee for violating the IPL Code of Conduct during Match 56 of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 against Delhi Capitals at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi on May 7, 2024,” the official statement said.
“Samson has committed a Level 1 offense under Article 2.8 of the IPL Code of Conduct. He has admitted the offense and accepted the match referee's sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the match referee's decision is final and binding.” further explained.
Going into the match, Samson's dismissal proved crucial as DC kept their IPL 2024 dreams alive with a win over RR, Jake Fraser-McGurk and Abishek Porel hitting hard half-centuries to take DC past 200 and a disciplined bowling attack made RR feel far away from the target.
“The way our bowlers performed at the back was the main positive and it was really good to see. We will try to learn from every match. Even if we lose or win, we will keep our heads down and keep moving forward .” always Kuldeep delivered, which was great to see. It was almost the same and at the same time we thought if we could restrict them to 200 then that would be fair and that was the thought process,” DC captain Rishabh Pant said after the match.
