New Delhi:
A Blue Corner Notice has been issued against Karnataka MP Prajwal Revanna, whose case faces sexual abuse cases, Home Minister G Parameshwara said today. NDA's Hassan Lok Sabha candidate is said to be in Germany.
“A Blue Corner notice has already been issued. Interpol will inform all countries and locate him,” Parameshwara told reporters.
The minister said the Special Investigation Team or SIT, formed to probe the sex scandal, will decide how to bring back Prajwal.
Blue Corner announcement
A Blue Corner Notice is part of Interpol's color-coded notices that allow countries to share warnings and requests for information worldwide. They are international requests for cooperation or alerts that allow police in member states to share crucial crime-related information.
There are seven types of messages: red, yellow, blue, black, green, orange and purple.
A Blue Notice is sent to collect additional information about an individual's identity, location, or activities in connection with a criminal investigation.
What it means for Prajwal Revanna
The SIT had earlier sent a request to the CBI, the nodal agency for Interpol affairs in India, seeking a Blue Corner Notice against him.
In this case, the notification would further assist the investigation authorities' investigation.
The grandson of JD(S) patriach and former Prime Minister Deve Gowda is said to have flown abroad on April 27, a day after the first phase of the Lok Sabha polls was held in Karnataka. His lawyer had asked him for seven days to appear before the SIT, to which the investigation team replied that this is not possible as there is no such provision.
The Karnataka government formed the SIT to investigate the sexual assault allegations against the MP after explicit video clips allegedly involving the 33-year-old started doing the rounds in Hassan recently.
This was followed by a police case against Mr Revanna following the complaint of a woman who alleged she was abused by the MP and his father, HD Revanna, for years. Prajwal Revanna's lawyer has denied any wrongdoing.
