New Delhi:
The Rouse Avenue court in Delhi today extended the judicial custody of BRS leader K Kavitha – arrested in the Delhi liquor policy case – till April 23.
K Kavitha — the daughter of former Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao — was arrested on March 15 by the Enforcement Directorate, which is investigating money laundering in the alleged scam.
The Central Bureau of Investigation, which had initiated the initial investigation into the liquor policy case, also allowed her to be questioned in prison.
Ms Kavitha said in a letter to the court that the investigation by central agencies – which she called a “media trial” – has tarnished her reputation and violated her privacy.
“I am a victim. My personal and political reputation has been attacked. My mobile phone is shown on all television channels, which is a direct invasion of my privacy,” she said in the letter read out by her lawyer in court.
“I have cooperated with the agencies and provided all bank account details. I will hand over all mobile phones that the ED claims I have destroyed,” the letter said.
The court had earlier refused to allow K Kavitha to address the court personally and said she could file her requests in written form.
Targeting the BJP over the alleged misuse of central agencies by the BJP, Ms. Kavitha said in the letter, “95 percent of ED/CBI cases are against the opposition leaders and when the accused joins the BJP, it stops research abruptly.”
As she left the court, the BRS leader said the case against her “will not stand the test of time.” “This is a case based entirely on the deposition. It's a political matter. This is a case of attacking the opposition parties,” she told reporters.
