Every year on December 12, Universal Health Coverage Day serves as a reminder to renew global efforts to ensure people have access to healthcare when they need it. Universal Health Coverage Day provides the opportunity to assess progress and identify gaps to ensure that everyone, everywhere, has access to the healthcare they need, close to home and without a financial burden. It is also a day dedicated to reflecting on what needs to be done next to make consistent and meaningful progress towards a more just and healthy society.

INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSAL HEALTH DAY 2021: HISTORY
The United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution on December 12, 2012 calling on countries to make rapid progress toward universal health coverage (UHC) – the idea that everyone, everywhere should have access to quality, affordable health care – as a top priority for international development. The United Nations has designated December 12 as International Universal Health Coverage Day on this day in 2017.
