Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Kalyan Banerjee, suspended from Parliament, staged protests on the steps of Parliament along with Opposition leaders on Tuesday. The TMC MP started an impromptu skit mocking Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi made a video of the act, angering the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) and its leaders. Now add the Jat Association to that.
The attacks on the vice president sparked sharp reactions as Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar himself termed the opposition's actions as “shameful” and “insult” to his background as a farmer and “position as a Jat”.
The Jat Association took up the official X-handle and alerted the Opposition MPs and Congress leaders.
'By elements of Congress.
Vice President of the country. And the pride of the Jat community.
Jagdeep Dankhad sir has been ridiculed.
The Jat community will definitely take this mockery into account in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Thank you .
Information issued in the interest of Jats.” the Jat Association tweeted in Hindi
“Imagine what must go through my heart when your senior leader films an MP making a mockery of the institution of the Speaker… Don't take my background as a farmer,” Jagdeep Dhankhar said in Rajya Sabha, addressing the senior congressional leader. P Chidambaram.
The institution of the Chairman, he added, has been destroyed and that too by a political party that has ruled for so long.
'An MP videotaping another, for what. I had suffered, I tell you, on Instagram, Mr. Chidambaram (who was present in the House), your party posted a video which was later withdrawn, that was a shame for me. You have used Twitter, the official handle of the spokesperson, to humiliate me, insult me, insult my background as a farmer, insult my position as a Jat, insult my position as a chairman,” Dhankhar said.
Opposition members, who were suspended from Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, had gathered on the steps of Parliament on Tuesday morning, raising anti-government slogans and waving placards demanding a statement from Home Minister Amit Shah in the House of Representatives on the breach of security in parliament.
Suddenly, Kalyan Banerjee stood up and started mocking the Vice President by mimicking the way he walked and conducted the proceedings in Rajya Sabha.
Kalyan Banerjee leaned forward with his back arched and called Rahul Gandhi, who was standing with the opposition members, and made certain comments about having a backbone.
The Opposition members cheered Kalyan Banerjee and Rahul Gandhi soon started making a video of the Trinamool leader's performance mocking the Vice President. Some opposition members also imitated the style of Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla while conducting proceedings in the House of Representatives.
A total of 141 MPs have been suspended from Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha for waving banners and raising slogans in the House of Representatives.
