Lok Sabha elections 2024: In a sharp dig at the Election Commission of India (ECI), Congress's Kerala unit shared a screenshot of an online order and said someone had ordered a spine for the EC. The joke comes ahead of the third phase of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, in which 95 seats across 12 states and Union Territories (UTs) will vote.
“Someone ordered a spine for @ECISVEEP. I hope they can use it to stand tall,” Congress Kerala said in a post on X.
The dig at the Election Commission of India comes amid allegations from opposition parties that the poll body is reluctant to act against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the ruling BJP.
ECI's 'cautious' approach against BJP
The Congress strongly objected to Prime Minister Modi's comments in Rajasthan's Banswara, where he claimed that the Congress manifesto talks about taking stock of “the gold of mothers and sisters” and distributing that wealth among Muslims.
“Earlier, when their (Congress) government was in power, they had said that Muslims have the first right to the property of the country. This means to whom will this property be distributed? It will be distributed among those who have more children. are distributed to the infiltrators. Should your hard-earned money go to the infiltrators. Is this okay with you?' the Prime Minister asked during the meeting.
While the Election Commission has issued a notice to BJP national president JP Nadda over Prime Minister Modi's comments, the Opposition alleged that the poll body is being very cautious in handling the complaints against the Prime Minister. “She [the ECI] They are super, super careful when it comes to the Prime Minister, they are super careful when it comes to the Home Minister,” Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh told reporters.
“There was no complaint against (former prime ministers) PV Narasimha Rao, Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Manmohan Singh. This is the second time we have filed a complaint against the Prime Minister. Earlier we complained about the Minister of the Interior [Amit Shah], but no action was taken. Action has been taken against the Chief Minister of Assam,” he added.
