Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) chief Sharad Pawar on Thursday criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying he has never seen a prime minister whose speeches were “not based on facts and reality”.
“I have never seen a Prime Minister whose speeches were not based on facts and reality. He is content with attacking me and Uddhav Thackeray,” Pawar told PTI.
Pawar reportedly alleged that Prime Minister Modi is not talking about the fundamental problems faced by people and is diverting their attention.
Wondering why Maharashtra was voting in five phases in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Pawar said, “It is because Modi can campaign here as much as possible… Those in power are worried.”

Sharad Pawar alleged that Prime Minister Modi's frequent comment that the INDIA bloc, if voted to power, would give reservations on the basis of religion, was an attempt to create social tension. “We never said this. This is Modi's creation,” Pawar said.
“Prime Minister Modi has also spoken about redistribution of wealth and inheritance taxes, which are not in the Congress manifesto,” Sharad Pawar added.
Sharad Pawar had earlier criticized Prime Minister Modi, saying, “…We fear that a new Putin is in the making in India.” He said, “I have seen the operations of almost every Prime Minister, including Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, including Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi, Narasimha Rao and Manmohan Singh. They wanted to create a new India, but the current Prime Minister is only criticizing.”
During his campaign in the state, Prime Minister Modi targeted Sharad Pawar, saying, “There is a 'bhatakti atma' (wandering soul) in Maharashtra. If it does not achieve success, it will spoil the good work of others. Maharashtra has fallen victim to It.”
Pawar's NCP (SP) is contesting 10 of the 48 Lok Sabha seats in Maharashtra as part of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance with Shiv Sena (UBT), which is contesting on 21 seats and Congress on 17 seats.
