The 6,700-km long Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, led by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, came to an end in Mumbai's Dadar on Saturday. His sister and Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra joined the yatra on the way to Dharavi.
The yatra, which began on January 14, has covered 16 states and 110 districts.
The Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra ended at Chaityabhoomi, Babasaheb Ambedkar's memorial. Congress leaders paid floral tributes at the Ambedkar Smarak as the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra came to an end.
Priyanka said the yatra was conducted to tell people “the reality of this country”.
“Today it is very important to understand the reality of this nation. There is a sharp attack on public consciousness and to make all of you aware of it, he (Rahul Gandhi) started the 'Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra',” she said.
On the last day of the yatra, Rahul attacked the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over electoral bonds. He accused the party of obtaining financing from companies under the guise of electoral bonds.
“The biggest companies are channeling money to the BJP through electoral bonds. When any of these companies come under scrutiny by agencies like the ED or the CBI, they provide financial support to the BJP. As a result, investigations often seem to disappear without any substantial consequences. This is how they extort money,” he said.
He also alleged that the BJP was “extorting money” through electoral bonds and using it to topple opposition governments in Maharashtra, Goa, Manipur and Arunachal.
AICC general secretary (organization) KC Venugopal and AICC state in-charge Ramesh Chennithala accompanied the Gandhi siblings in an open jeep.
The yatra started from conflict-torn Manipur on January 14 and entered Mumbai from neighboring Thane on the 63rd day on Saturday.
The Congress is also planning to organize a mega rally at Shivaji Park to celebrate the culmination of the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra. Several INDIA block leaders are likely to participate in the meeting.
