Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader and former Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar Tejashwi Yadav has decided to respond with humor to BJP Lok Sabha candidate Kangana Ranaut's blunder on May 4.
At an election rally on May 4, Ranaut, the BJP candidate from Mandi seat (Himachal Pradesh), seemingly launched an attack on Yadav but instead mistakenly named him as fellow BJP leader Tejasvi Surya.
Surya is the BJP LS candidate from Bengaluru South constituency in Karnataka.
Response from Tejashwi Yadav
On social media site X (formerly known as Twitter), Yadav quoted an account pointing out the misplaced mention of Surya in Ranaut's speech.
“Ye mohtarma kaun hain?” (Who is this lady?), he wrote.
Why the attack?
Ranaut attacked some opposition leaders and accused Surya of 'hooliganism' and 'eating fish'. However, it was Yadav who was criticized for “eating fish on Navrati night” after posting a video from his meal post Lok Sabha campaign on April 9.
“There is a group of spoiled princes… whether it is Rahul Gandhi who wants to grow potatoes on the moon, or it is Tejasvi Surya who is into hooliganism and eats fish… or it is Akhilesh Yadav who talks funny… .” Ranaut had said.
Yadav on campaign trail
Meanwhile, in an interview with news agency ANI on May 4, Yadav questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi's record on extradition of fugitives.
“So many have fled abroad. Has Prime Minister Modi brought anyone back? So many corrupt Indians and rapists have fled from here and are living a luxurious life abroad. Has he (PM Modi) brought anyone back?” Yadav said.
Yadav was referring to former Kingfisher Airlines chief Vijay Mallya, who is living in the United Kingdom as the government pursues his extradition; and fugitive diamond trader Nirav Modi, who has been in Britain since 2019 and faces extradition proceedings; and Lalit Modi, the founder of the Indian Premier League, who has also taken refuge in Britain.
Vijay Mallya fled in 2016 amid legal action from public sector banks. Nirav Modi was arrested for his involvement in the Punjab National Bank loan scandal. Lalit Modi was accused of tender rigging and money laundering.
“This is a very shameful incident. What happened in Manipur was heartbreaking. What happened to female wrestlers was heartbreaking. This incident, where an NDA MP sexually exploited around 3,000 women… His voting was over on May 26 and he subsequently fled abroad! People will teach him a lesson,” he added.
