Kharkiv:
The 240-meter-tall television tower in the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv broke in half and fell to the ground on Monday, images obtained by Reuters showed, after what local officials said was likely a Russian missile attack on the television infrastructure.
The transmission signal to Ukraine's second-largest city, which has been ravaged by Russian missiles and drone attacks in recent weeks, was disrupted.
“Currently there are interruptions in the digital television signal,” regional governor Oleh Syniehubov said.
There were no casualties because workers were in bomb shelters, he added.
Footage from the scene showed the tower's main mast breaking off and falling as a cloud of smoke rose into the sky.
It was not clear from the footage what had hit the mast, but Kharkiv prosecutors said Russia likely used a Kh-59 cruise missile in the attack.
The video was verified by confirming a video from a different angle, which showed the same moment when the top of the tower collapsed.
Russia first attacked the Kharkov television tower several times in early March 2022, shortly after launching its full-scale invasion. The signal was disrupted at that time.
Moscow has recently stepped up its attacks as Ukraine faces a shortage of air defense capabilities. Kharkiv and the surrounding region have seen the most intense strikes.
