Azerbaijan launched a military operation in the breakaway regions occupied by Armenia on Monday
Karabakh:
A separatist Armenian human rights official in the breakaway region of Nagorno-Karabakh said 25 people were killed there on Tuesday as a result of an Azerbaijani military offensive.
Two of the dead were civilians, Gegham Stepanyan said in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter. Stepanyan later added that 138 people, including 29 civilians, had been injured. Reuters was unable to verify his information.
Azerbaijan earlier on Tuesday sent troops into Armenian-controlled Karabakh, which is internationally recognized as part of its own territory, in a bid to take control of the region by force, raising the threat of a new war with neighboring Armenia.
