A family in Afghanistan’s Balkh province has tried to sell their child because of extreme poverty, Tolo News reported Saturday.
The two-year-old was rescued from sale after some local residents in the province helped the family with food and other aid to improve their economic situation.
“We met with the Red Cross for a few days; we will make members of these institutions aware of how they can help us,” said Noorul Hadi Abu Idris, the deputy governor of Balkh.
According to TOLO news, the child’s mother said she was forced to try to sell her child because of extreme poverty.
“I am in a very difficult situation; I have nothing to eat or use for fuel; I have not prepared for the winter. I have to sell my daughter and buy some stuff for the winter,” said Nasrin, the mother of the school. child while complaining to officials about the situation of the province and residents living there under very bad conditions.
Nasrin said neither the local government nor humanitarian organizations had offered her any assistance in more than a year.
“I myself have gone to the authorities two or three times and begged them to put my name on the list in case help is offered. They replied that we have noted your name, but so far I have not received any support Nasrin said. .
Since the Taliban took control of Afghanistan, the people in the country have reportedly been deprived of basic services and claim a serious humanitarian crisis is underway.
