New Delhi:
Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk said Saturday that a new update on “enhanced image matching” will defeat both deepfakes and surface forgeries on social media platform X.
The new update will show comments on 30 percent more posts containing “similar or identical images.”
“We just rolled out the update and will check for any incorrect image matches,” X said in a message.
Elon Musk added that this move “should make a big difference in defeating deepfakes (and superficial fakes).”

Shallowfakes are photos, videos, and voice clips generated without the help of artificial intelligence (AI) using commonly available editing and software tools.
X image comments automatically appear on posts that contain a matching image.
“It's common for these notes to correspond to tens, hundreds, and sometimes thousands of messages. Now you can see how many messages an image note corresponds to right in the note details,” the company said.
In the global election season, experts have warned about the spread of fake news and deepfakes aimed at disrupting the polls.
The independent Oversight Board, made up of 22 global human rights and freedom of expression experts from around the world, has called for urgent action to tackle deepfakes that threaten global elections.
