Beirut, Lebanon:
Lebanon's Iran-backed Hezbollah movement said on Saturday it had attacked northern Israel with drones and guided missiles after cross-border Israeli strikes killed three people, including two of its members.
A statement from the group said they “launched a complex attack using explosive drones and guided missiles against the headquarters of the Al Manara Military Command and a collection of troops from the 51st Battalion of the Golani Brigade.”
The Israeli military said its Iron Dome air defense system “successfully intercepted a suspicious air target entering the Manara area of northern Israel from Lebanon.”
The army also “hit the fire sources” of several anti-tank missiles launched from Lebanon towards the Manara border area, it added.
Lebanon's National News Agency later reported that an Israeli airstrike on a house in the village of Srebbine had injured 11 people, one seriously.
Earlier Saturday, Israeli fighter jets “hit a Hezbollah military structure in the Qouzah area of southern Lebanon,” the army said in a statement.
The border between Lebanon and Israel has seen gun battles almost every day since the war between Israel and Hamas in Gaza began almost seven months ago.
In two separate statements earlier Saturday, Hezbollah mourned the deaths of two fighters from the villages of Kafr Kila and Khiam.
It says they were “martyred on the road to Jerusalem,” the phrase used to refer to members killed by Israeli fire.
Hezbollah has intensified its attacks on military sites in Israel since tensions rose between Israel and Iran following the bombing of Tehran's Damascus consulate on April 1, which has been largely blamed on Israel.
