Washington:
Indian-American philanthropist Ramesh Bhutada has donated $1 million to the Hindu American Foundation (HAF) for Hindu causes in the US.
Houston-based businessman Bhutada committed $1 million to HAF over the next four years at a recent Hindu American Foundation gala.
In March 2023, he donated $1 million to the Florida-based Hindu University of America, the only institution in the US whose mission is to provide education based on Hindu philosophy.
Participants at the HAF Gala in Houston also raised an additional USD 450,000.
During the meeting, Silicon Valley tech entrepreneur Sundar Iyer shared his terrifying experience of facing accusations of caste discrimination.
Iyer said that while California went to the extreme of putting a target on the backs of the Indian and Hindu communities with the proposed SB403 bill vetoed by Governor Gavin Newsom, the fallacious idea that the Hindu community would be involved widespread caste discrimination and violence could easily seep into corporate HR departments and local city ordinances through targeted pressure from anti-Hindu caste activists.
HAF Director Suhag Shukla and Iyer underscored the need for the community to remain vigilant against such scenarios, a press release said.
