Zaarab led Islamic Jihad's elite forces in the October 7 attack on Kibbutz Sufa and the Sufa military post on the border with the Gaza Strip, the IDF was quoted as saying by Xinhua news agency on Saturday.
Zaarab had “ordered and directed” several attacks, and in recent days he led Islamic Jihad's preparations for a battle in the southern Gaza Strip against the Israeli army, the IDF statement said.
Along with Zaarab, two other Islamic Jihad operatives were killed in the attack, the IDF added.
