Jenin, West Bank:
Israeli soldiers have killed two Palestinian gunmen who opened fire on them from a vehicle in the occupied West Bank, the army said on Saturday.
The army has released a photo of two automatic rifles it says were used by several gunmen to fire on soldiers at an outpost near the Palestinian city of Jenin.
The Jenin Brigade, an umbrella group that includes armed groups such as Islamic Jihad and Hamas, said the two armed men were members.
There was no other immediate comment from Palestinian officials in the West Bank, where violence is rising as Israel continues its war against the Palestinian group Hamas in Gaza.
Israel launched its offensive in Gaza after Hamas led an attack on southern Israel on October 7, killing 1,200 people and taking 253 hostage, according to Israel. According to Gaza's health ministry, more than 34,000 Palestinians have been killed since then and most of the population has been displaced.
Violence in the West Bank, which was already on the rise before the war, has since flared up with intensified Israeli raids and Palestinian street attacks.
The West Bank and Gaza, which Israel captured in the 1967 war, are among the areas the Palestinians are seeking for a state. The US-brokered peace talks collapsed a decade ago.
