King Charles III’s coronation ceremony will reportedly be a “downsized” affair than his mother’s in 1953. The new monarch is expected to be crowned at a ceremony at Westminister Abbey on June 3, 2023, according to a report in the Independent.
The monarch is crowned after nearly 70 years on the day after the queen was crowned. For the Queen’s coronation, the fanfare was immense and more than 8,000 guests were invited to the royal event. However, King Charles wants to keep it quiet, Insider reported. This includes taking away much of the pageantry and fanfare coronations in British history, palace insiders told the publication.
King Charles will be the oldest person to be crowned in British history. The guest list for the coronation ceremony will reportedly be smaller and people will be able to follow a more casual dress code. More than 2.00 participants are expected.
It was also reported that the duration of the ceremony would last just over an hour. The ceremony will have less mysterious rituals. Rituals such as offering gold bars to the monarch are abolished.
Queen Elizabeth II was buried in Windsor Castle on September 20, next to her husband, sister and parents after an extensive funeral service.
The service included Bible readings by Commonwealth Secretary-General Patricia Scotland and by Liz Truss – appointed by the Queen as her last British Prime Minister just two days before her death.
Mourners lined the streets of central London on Monday for the Queen’s funeral. A sea of guns held up mobile phones in Parliament Square to film the spectacular procession of the Queen’s coffin from Westminster Abbey after a service attended by leaders from around the world.
