Russia:
Russia on Saturday accused the West of destabilizing the meeting of G20 finance ministers in India by trying to push through a joint statement on Ukraine that had stalled due to disagreements.
“We regret that the activities of the G20 continue to be destabilized by the Western collective and used in an anti-Russian manner,” the foreign ministry said.
Moscow accused the United States, the European Union and the G7 countries of “interfering with the adoption of collective decisions” by attempting to impose their “dictation” through what they called “obvious blackmail”.
Their goal had been to impose through lobbying and “ultimatums” their interpretation of the Ukraine conflict in the joint statement, the ministry’s statement said.
The ministry called on the West to “abstain from its destructive policies as soon as possible, to recognize the objective reality of a multipolar world”.
“The G20 should remain an economic forum rather than encroaching on the security sphere,” it said.
G20 finance ministers failed to agree on a joint statement on the world economy during talks in India on Saturday after China tried to downplay references to the conflict in Ukraine.
Instead, the current G20 India president issued a “chairman’s summary” stating that “most members strongly condemned the conflict” and that there were “different assessments of the situation and sanctions” during the two-day meeting in Bengaluru.
A footnote said that two paragraphs in the summary on the conflict, which it said were taken from the G20 leaders’ statement in Bali in November, were “agreed by all member states except Russia and China”.
