Moscow:
Russia has imposed a five-year prison sentence on a 20-year-old student in the country's center for allegedly collaborating with Ukrainian special services and planning sabotage attacks on military bases, local authorities announced Monday.
Since the start of large-scale hostilities in Ukraine in February 2022, Moscow has arrested a slew of foreigners and Russian citizens for allegedly collaborating with Kiev or planning attacks on army infrastructure.
The FSB security service branch in the central Russian city of Kurgan said the man had previously been arrested on suspicion of collaborating with a foreign state.
“The defendant intended to commit sabotage against military and social infrastructure facilities,” said the statement distributed to Russian news agencies announcing the five-year prison sentence.
The FSB also alleged that the student, who was not identified, planned to spread pro-Ukrainian propaganda online and hand over details of troop and law enforcement activities in the region.
Russia has criminalized criticism of its military after launching large-scale hostilities in Ukraine and has arrested or fined thousands of people for speaking out against the fighting.
