Owners of Tesla Cybertrucks have complained that their electric pickup broke down after going through a car wash. After driving the $80,000 (approximately Rs 66 lakh) Cybertruck for just two months, and with less than 3,400 miles (5,500 km) on the odometer, one owner claimed the truck broke down after washing off some sand after taking it to the beach had gone, according to a report in the Independent.
TikTok user @captain.ad posted a video of his malfunctioning Cybertruck and explained that he tried to reset it but was unable to get it to work. The vehicle was dubbed a “tin can,” a “lemon” and a “paperweight” by netizens, who also joked about the fact that while it appears bulletproof, it is not waterproof.
Two buttons on the steering wheel caused a five-hour computer reset, eventually getting the broken Cybertruck running again. The user said: “What (Tesla) said was 'It's a known issue in the Cybertruck that when you do a screen reset it takes five hours instead of resetting in the standard two minutes'.”
Notably, in the Cybertruck owner's manual, the electric car manufacturer lists several warnings and risks associated with washing the vehicle. It includes a warning not to wash the car in direct sunlight and tips on how to avoid damage while washing your car. According to the outlet, the manual says: “Failure to put Cybertruck into car wash mode may result in damage (e.g. to the charging port or windshield wipers). Damage caused by car washes is not covered by the warranty.”
The company, led by billionaire Elon Musk, has not commented on the incidents.
