A former Ecuadorian beauty queen was shot dead by two gunmen in broad daylight in Quevedo on Sunday. New York Post reported. The shocking daylight murder happened after she was linked to a notorious gang boss who tried to keep their connection hidden.
A gruesome one CCTV footage capturing the incident shows two gunmen bursting into the eatery as Landy Parraga Goyburo and another man stood at a table. As she stood there chatting with him, two gunmen entered the restaurant without her noticing. As the first gunman ran toward them, Ms. Goyburo fell to the ground as the man next to her took cover.
However, he charged at them and shot them both while the second gunman stood guard at the door of the restaurant. Both armed attackers then flee the scene and storm out the door and into the street. Images later showed the former beauty queen lying motionless on the ground in a pool of blood.
According to the local Ecuavisa, she had been in Quevedo on Saturday to attend a wedding.
Police are now investigating the incident and trying to determine the motive and identify the attackers responsible.
Ms. Parraga was a former Miss Ecuador contestant and represented Los Ríos Province in 2022. She had more than a million followers on her social media accounts. At just 23, Ms. Parraga owned a home goods importer and ran her sportswear line.
She made headlines last December when her name was mentioned in a conversation between drug trafficker Leandro Norero and his accountant Helive Angulo.
In the chat, Angulo told drug trafficker Leandro Norero that the police had asked him about Ms. Párraga.
Norero wrote, “If my wife finds out anything about her, I'm fucked. My friend, her name cannot appear anywhere. Otherwise my world will collapse.”
Norero was murdered in prison in 2022, six months after his imprisonment.
