Washington:
When former US President Donald Trump arrived in New York to face a Manhattan court to face charges, Republican lawmakers called the charges “politically motivated,” while the governing Democrats insisted that no one is above the law.
However, President Joe Biden remained focused on his development agenda and was traveling to Minnesota.
“Regardless of your opinion of President Trump, we should all be able to admit this fact: This decision to indict a former president and current presidential candidate on a very weak case will have serious ramifications going forward,” said Republican Congressman Dan Crenshaw . told DailyExpertNews in an interview.
He claimed the entire episode was “politically motivated”.
“It weakens everyone’s confidence in the integrity of the American justice system. And for all the leftist talk about “threats to our democracy”. I would certainly classify an armed justice system against political opponents as a threat to democracy. The fairness of our judiciary is essential to the rule of law in our country, and the rule of law is essential to our democracy. This bogus case against Donald Trump undermines both,” Crenshaw said.
Congresswoman Kathy Manning said Trump cannot be shielded from legal responsibility, if the facts warrant it, simply because he was president.
“Our democracy is based on the fundamental principle that everyone should be treated equally under the law. Regardless of your position, status or wealth – if you break the law, you must be held accountable. Two top Trump aides have already been convicted of crimes related to their work for former President Trump,” she said.
“While we wait for the indictment to be unsealed, it is critical that the Manhattan District Attorney can continue its investigation without political interference. I encourage all Americans to respect the justice system and allow this case to proceed without threats of violence or interference,” Manning said.
Republican congressman Dan Bishop said using the state’s attorney, especially in an unusual manner, for political retaliation against a former president and to intimidate or manipulate his presidential candidacy violates the U.S. Constitution.
“For Americans living in or often predominantly Democratic urban areas, this is a cautionary tale. As the left becomes more openly authoritarian, something of an iron curtain descends over parts of the US where democratic power is unchecked. Wrong thinkers are prosecuted – scofflaws skate,” Bishop said.
Meanwhile, top US Senators Jim Risch and Mike Braun, along with Senators Rick Scott, Todd Young, Mitt Romney, Shelley Moore Capito and Jerry Moran, have introduced a bill to prevent the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) from being used as a political weapon against non-profit conservative and ideological groups.
“The IRS should never disclose taxpayers’ private information because of their political ideology. The Don’t Weaponize the IRS Act will prevent the Biden administration’s IRS agents from targeting Americans, regardless of their political affiliations,” Risch said.
Republican presidential nominee Vivek Ramaswami announced a policy plan to end police arming in America, which would include closing and replacing both the IRS and FBI.
“The corrupt administrative state poses a serious threat to freedom and justice in America. President Trump has denounced this problem, but I will move forward to actually solve it—by leading with principle and moral authority, not with spite and vengeance. I will end without apology the arming of the police force in our country,” he said.
