In her memoir, former US First Lady Michelle Obama has shredded the spread of President Trump’s “birther” conspiracy theory against her husband Barack Obama.
In excerpts from her memoir “Becoming,” Michelle Obama has said she would “never forgive” Trump for “xenophobic” claims that her husband was not actually born in America, The Hill magazine reports. “The whole thing was, of course, insane and vicious, and the underlying bigotry and xenophobia could hardly be disguised,” wrote the former First Lady.
“But it was also dangerous, purposely designed to stir up the wingnuts and cooks. What if someone with an unstable mind loaded a gun and drove to Washington? What if that person went looking for our girls? Donald Trump, with his loud and reckless innuendo, jeopardized the safety of my family. And I would never forgive him for this,” she said.
The book, due out on November 13, chronicles her early life in Chicago up to her time as First Lady, and details her feelings of shock and disbelief after Trump’s 2016 election.
The comments were some of Michelle Obama’s most direct comments to the current president, whom she has virtually never criticized since leaving the White House last year.
Other criticism in the book focused on Trump’s comments about women on the now infamous “Access Hollywood” tape, as well as his conduct during debates with his 2016 opponent, Hillary Clinton.
Michelle Obama plans to launch a 10-city book tour that kicks off Nov. 13 in her hometown of Chicago.
