Ex-Pakistan captain Rashid Latif has made a dig at former Indian skipper MS Dhoni for his wicketkeeping skills. Latif, who was himself a wicketkeeper batter during his playing days, used statistics to voice his opinion. He said Dhoni dropped about 21 percent of his catches, which is a “huge” number. It is worth noting that Dhoni recorded 256 catches and 38 stumpings in Test cricket, 321 catches and 123 stumpings in ODIs and 57 catches and 34 stumpings in T20Is. However, Rashid believes that one should also pay attention to the number of missed opportunities by a wicketkeeper.
“Dhoni was a batsman-wicketkeeper… Dhoni is a big name. But when I look at the stats, his (catch) dropping rate is 21 percent, which is huge, huge,” Latif said on his YouTube channel Caught behind.
“Everyone goes to catches, but nobody notices the number of catches fallen, the number of stumps missed, the number of byes given and run outs missed, then you get points,” he added.
MS Dhoni, who is touted as one of the greatest wicketkeepers of all time, retired from international cricket in August 2020. He is still active as a player in T20 cricket for his Indian Premier League franchise Chennai Super Kings.
When asked who he thinks is the best wicketkeeper, Latif expressed his penchant for South African wicketkeeper batter Quinton de Kock, although he added that the southpaw has no finishing abilities.

“If you look at the best in the last 15 years, Quinton de Kock would be the best. He has held wickets and batted well in all three formats. He has not been a good finisher, but an excellent wicketkeeper batsman.” said Latif.
“Before him, there were Mark Boucher and Kumar Sangakkara,” he concluded.
