Legendary South African cricketer AB De Villiers believes that even though Rajat Patidar is disappointed with his performance in the ongoing Test series against England, he can retain his place in the side due to the prevailing culture in the team. In a recent video, De Villiers pointed out that captain Rohit Sharma and head coach Rahul Dravid have created a team culture where young players are given time to regain his form. Patidar currently averages just 10.5 in his Test career with one 30-plus knock.
“Rajat Patidar is not having the series of a lifetime or the one to remember. But the good thing about this Indian team and the culture is that you will survive in that side because of the great cricket they play and the results that are coming.” de Villiers said on his YouTube channel.
De Villiers also advised Rohit and Dravid to give Patidar a chance if his “attitude is catchy” or if he is “a likeable character in the dressing room” because if results go in their favor, they have a chance to get more time to give to young people. and showing confidence in a talent that has the potential to become great.
“If Patidar's attitude is catchy and if he is a likeable character in the dressing room, Rohit and the selection committee will have the ability to say, 'Wait a minute, we believe this man has a future and we see him as part of the selection.” the team is moving forward. Even though he hasn't scored any points, let's give him a longer run.”
India will take on England in the fifth Test match in Dharamsala from March 7.
