Tilak Varma batted with confidence and hit a sparkling fifty to single-handedly take the Mumbai Indians to a competitive 171 for seven against Royal Challengers Bangalore in their opening match on Sunday at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Sent to bat five-time champion MI got off to a poor start, but Varma, who was successful last season, delivered the goods as he held the innings together with an undefeated 46-ball 84-run knock. His innings was peppered with nine boundaries and four sixes.
Varma was the only bright spot in MI’s batting department on game day. The star player ended MI innings with a helicopter shot that went over the long fence for a six and the fans couldn’t keep calm.

Debutant Nehal Wadhera also took the spotlight in his first IPL match with a 21-run knock-off off 13 balls. He hit a four and two sixes during his knock. One of his six covered a distance of 101 meters, proud of the player’s strength.
Arshad Khan’s 15 not out of 89 balls also helped the Mumbai Indians’ cause as the side posted a competitive total on the board.
For RCB, spinner Karn Sharma was the bowlers choice as he took two wickets and gave away 32 runs from his four overs.
