The UPSC Civil Services exam is a coveted and one of the toughest tests in India. To pass this exam, participants need intensive preparation. Many of them manage to crack it with their relentless efforts and one of them is Indian Administrative Officer Prateek Jain of the 2018 batch.
Prateek initially worked as an officer in the Indian Forest Service but then cleared the UPSC exam in his second attempt in 2017. His All-India Rank was 86. Prateek completed his education from renowned institutions such as Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) and BITS (Birla Institute of Technology and Science) Pilani.
Prateek Jain is currently working as the Chief Development Officer (CDO) in Haridwar district of Uttarakhand. He cleared the prelims and the main exam on his first attempt in 2016. He failed to make it to the final merit list but passed the Indian Forest Service (IFoS) examination with the grade 3 in the same year. Prateek worked as an Indian forest ranger for a year.
He had completed his Bachelor of Engineering award in Mechanical Engineering from BITS Pilani. He obtained his Master of Science honors from the same institution in Biological Science. Prateek went on to obtain a master’s degree in public management from Jawaharlal Nehru University in 2020.
Prateek initially worked as deputy collector of Haridwar district from December 2019 to August 2020. He then took charge as CDO Haridwar. He also served as Deputy Collector and SDM in Nainital district for almost two years.
Prateek talked about his preparation strategies and other aspects in an earlier interview with a portal. He was asked what his style of preparation and notes was. Prateek said, “I read standard books several times and made very short notes (10-20 pages per book) a month before the preliminary/main exam, which helped me in the final revision. I also used Evernote to take notes on current events.”
