Karnataka’s Supreme Court has refused to quash a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act (POCSO) against a female teacher who pulled down a 5-year-old student’s pants in class.
The sole divisional bench headed by Judge M. Nagaprasanna gave the order on Thursday. According to police, the 41-year-old accused teacher worked at a private school. She had approached the Karnataka High Court to quash the charges against her.
Based on the complaint from the child’s parents, Halasuru Police in Bengaluru has been investigating the matter. The accused teacher allegedly pulled the pants off a 5-year-old student studying in kindergarten in front of other children and embarrassed her. The incident happened in 2017.

In the indictment, the parents accused the accused teacher of initially beating the child and later pulling her pants down in front of the class and leaving her standing in front of other students in that state. The accused teacher had also threatened the child that she would be locked in a dark room where a ferocious dog was waiting for her.
The 5-year-old child told this to her parents, who filed a complaint against the teacher with the Halasuru police in 2017.
Given the sensitivity of the case, the Supreme Court’s court refused to quash the criminal proceedings against the teacher.
