Police arrested five persons on Friday and recovered a fake gold statue of Jesus Christ, a biscuit, in two separate operations in Nagaon and Sonitpur districts of Assam, police said.
In the first operation, the police conducted an operation in the Namdoboka Pathar area under the Doboka Police Station in Nagaon District and arrested three persons.
The police team found a fake gold statue of Jesus Christ weighing 1,700 kg with them.
A police officer from Doboka Police Station said they launched the operation based on classified information.
“We recovered one fake gold statue of Jesus Christ and arrested three persons. Those arrested have been identified as Aslam Talukdar, Zubair Hussain and Iqbal Hussain. Our investigation is ongoing,” said the police officer.
In a separate operation, Sonitpur district police arrested two individuals and found a fake golden biscuit from Tezpur Salanibari area.
Those arrested were identified as Ikramul Hussain and Jamal Ali.
