Raipur:
At least six Maoists were killed this morning at a meeting with security forces in the Chhattisgarh-Telangana border area, police said.
The clash took place between 6 a.m. and 7 a.m. in a forest in the Kistaram area of the Sukma district of Chhattisgarh, more than 400 km from the capital Raipur, they said.
Six Maoists, including four women, were killed in the firefight with the Telangana Police Special Anti-Maoist Greyhounds Unit, a senior police officer in Bastar told the Press Trust of India news agency.
A joint team from Sukma’s District Reserve Guard and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) was also on operation in the area as emergency support for the Greyhounds team, he said.
“According to preliminary reports, the bodies of six ultras, including four women, belonging to the Kistaram Area Committee of Maoists, have been recovered at the site,” the official said, adding that the operation is still underway.
Sukma, Chief Inspector of Police, Sunil Sharma, called the operation a huge success and claimed that security forces dealt a severe blow to the Maoist Committee in the Kistaram area, which had historically played a key role in carrying out several deadly attacks. .
“A total of five Maoist area committees are active in Sukma. In the past six months, security forces have managed to effectively monitor the activities of the Kerlapal and Konta area committees,” Sharma told PTI news agency.
Top executives of the Kerlapal Area Committee surrendered in the past year, while in August this year a local organizing squad (LOS) commander and his deputy from the Konta Area Committee were killed during a meeting with Sukma police, he said.
“Now that the Kistaram Area Committee has been significantly decimated, the next goal will be to neutralize two other committees – Katekalyan and Jagargunda,” he added.
Earlier in the day, Sunil Dutt, Superintendent of Police of Bhadradri Kothagudem District, said the Maoists were killed in a joint operation between Telangana and Chhattisgarh Police and the CRPF.
He said they had received a tip that Maoists were trying to attack security forces and that combing was being stepped up in the area.
