Jaipur:
Rajasthan police today detained BJP leader Kirodi Lal Meena, who was part of a protest in Jaipur by widows of soldiers killed in the Pulwama terror attack demanding jobs for families and other issues. Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot accused Mr Meena of using the widows for political gain.
Widows of the CRPF jawans who died in the 2019 terrorist attack were removed from their protest grounds, outside the residence of Congress leader Sachin Pilot, in Jaipur around 3 a.m. today and taken to hospitals near their respective residential areas .
The BJP denounced the state government, calling the move “an insult to widows” and accusing it of failing to keep promises to the families.
“I was going to visit Samod Balaji with my supporters but the Samod police stopped me and mistreated and mistreated me. Is it such a big crime to stand behind the brave women that the @ashokgehlot51 government is behaving like this? in front of a public representative?” Mr. Meena tweeted in Hindi along with video clips of his altercation with police.

Protesting since February 28, the widows began an indefinite hunger strike six days ago, demanding a change in the rules to allow their relatives, not just children, to get government jobs on compassionate grounds. Their other demands include the construction of roads and the installation of statues of the martyrs in their villages.
In response to the widows’ demands, Ashok Gehlot had questioned whether it would be appropriate to snatch the martyrs’ children’s jobs from relatives. On one of the demands – a third statue of one of the slain jawans – Mr Gehlot said it would be unfair to other widows and their families.
“Shri Hemraj Meena’s wife wants his third statue to be placed at a crossroads while his earlier two statues have been installed in the building of Government College, Sangod and in the park in his native village Vinod Kalan. Such a demand is not appropriate, keep an eye on other families.
Shri Rohitash Lamba’s wife seeks a compassionate appointment for her brother-in-law. If the job is given to the brother today, then in the future the family members or relatives of all those jawans may start exerting undue social and familial pressure to relinquish their and their children’s rightful job to other relatives. Should we create such a difficult situation? The rules that are made at this point are only made based on past experience. How can it be justified to take the rights of the children of the slain jawans and give jobs to other relatives? What happens to the children when they grow up? Is it right to take away their rights?” Ashok Gewhlot had tweeted in Hindi.

Mr. Meena went to the SEZ police station in Jaipur this morning and said that the government will not be able to suppress the widows’ voice.
“Why is the government so afraid of three women warriors that the police arrested them overnight. Don’t know where they were taken? The women only beg to meet with the chief minister, Ashok Gehlot ji Why is the Prime Minister so nervous to hear them?” Mr Meena told reporters.
