The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a case following a complaint by BSNL, Assam Circle, Guwahati against BSNL’s 21 officers, including the then general manager, an official statement on Friday said.
“The Central Bureau of Investigation has registered a case based on a complaint by BSNL, Assam Circle, Guwahati against 21 officers of BSNL, including then General Manager, then Dy.GM, then AGM, then Chief Accounts Officer, etc. of BSNL, Jorhat, Sibsagar, Guwahati and others, including individuals,” the press release said.
CBI said in its official statement that it was alleged that the officials had conspired with the contractor and others and defrauded BSNL on that basis.
It was further alleged that the contractor was awarded a work order for laying the national fiber optic network cable by open trench method at Rs 90,000/- per km.
“It was also alleged that the contractor later made various pleas including no right of way from owner of private property, etc. /- per km) despite provision of right of way, easement clause in the contract, thereby violating the tender clause and loss of Rs.22 crore (approx) to the BSNL,” an official statement said.
CBI said searches were carried out today at 25 locations including offices and residential buildings of the accused in the states of Assam, Bihar, West Bengal, Odisha and Haryana, etc. leading to the recovery of incriminating items.
Further investigation is underway in this case.
