Sharad Pawar, president of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), said today that no one has the right to change the country’s name after the congress claimed a G20 dinner invitation referred to the president as “President of Bharat.”
Sharad Pawar said the issue will be deliberated at a meeting convened by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Wednesday with the leaders of the parties that make up the INDIA Alliance, a 28-party opposition bloc seeking to fight the the BJP-led Center in India. next year’s general election.
“I don’t understand why the ruling party is disturbed by a name related to the country,” the NCP chief told reporters at a news conference in Maharashtra’s Jalgaon district.
When asked if India’s name will be changed in the constitution, Sharad Pawar said, “I don’t have any information about it.”
Mr. Pawar said Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has called a meeting of all party chiefs of the INDIA alliance on Wednesday.
“This will be discussed at the meeting, but no one has the right to change the name (of the country). No one can change the name,” said the NCP chief.
Congress on Tuesday alleged that the “Union of States” is under attack by the Modi government, as it claimed a G20 dinner invitation referred to the president as “President of Bharat.”
The G20 summit will be held in New Delhi from September 9 to 10 under the presidency of India and several heads of state from around the world, including US President Joe Biden, will attend the event.
