New Delhi/Jammu:
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Wednesday conducted raids across the country to arrest those involved in human trafficking and arrested a person from Myanmar in Jammu, officials said.
The raids, which are being conducted in eight states and two Union Territories, relate to human trafficking cases, an NIA spokesperson said.
The official said searches were conducted in Tripura, Assam, West Bengal, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Haryana, Rajasthan and the Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Puducherry.
A Rohingya Muslim from Myanmar was arrested during a raid in Jammu and Kashmir, an official in Jammu said.
Zaffar Alam was taken into custody from his temporary residence in Bathindi area of Jammu around 2 a.m. while another suspect is on the run, the official said.
The raids were limited to slums where immigrants from Myanmar lived and were carried out in connection with a case related to violation of the passport law and human trafficking, the official in Jammu said.
