The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) has decided to postpone the planned awakening or establishing communication with India’s lunar mission Chandrayaan-3, solar-powered lander Vikram and lunar rover Pragyan. The space agency has said that they will now attempt to revive Vikram Lander and Pragyan Rover on Saturday, September 23.
According to a report by India Today, Nilesh Desai, director of the Space Applications Center, said: “Earlier, we had planned to reactivate the (Pragyan) rover and (Vikram) lander on the evening of September 22, but somehow reason we will do that now. tomorrow on September 23.”
Both the lander and rover were put into sleep mode earlier this month on September 4 and 2 respectively, before the moon set on Earth’s only natural satellite.
After conducting experiments on the moon from August 23 to September 4, Chandrayaan-3’s rover and lander modules were put to sleep in an attempt to survive the extremely cold atmosphere at the moon’s south pole.
Chandrayaan-3 landed on the moon’s south pole on August 23, making India an exclusive club of four and becoming the first country to land on the unknown surface.
