The IPL 2024 has seen a series of mammoth scores – almost unheard of in the history of T20 cricket. Never before has the 265 mark been crossed in the IPL. But in the first four weeks the limit was crossed four times by two different teams. SunRisers Hyderabad have been leading the way with big scores in the IPL 2024. They have scored 287/3 (vs Royal Challengers Bengaluru), 277/3 (vs Mumbai Indians) and 266/7 (vs Delhi Capitals) so far. Kolkata Knight Riders scored 272/7 (vs Delhi Capitals).
In the match against Delhi Capitals, SRH scored a world record 125 in six overs with Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma only trading within the boundaries. SRH crossed the 100-run mark in just five overs.
Pakistani pace legend Wasim Akram was asked about the high scores and his response was interesting.
“Scoring 100 in five overs is illegal. Even if you throw a full toss, that can't happen. You're paying the bowlers to get hit. I do feel sorry for the bowlers in this format. But it is what it is. Bowlers to think outside the box. To score a hundred in five overs is unreal,” Wasim Akram told Sportskeeda
“(Talking about SRH) We all love Australians, the way they play. Who says a fast bowler can lead well. It's a different matter, when Pakistan made a fast bowler captain (Shaheen Afridi). Then SRH Travis Head, another Dangerous player. In no league is there a more fearsome batting unit than SRH's. Heinrich Klaasen is one of my favorite players in T20 cricket. Abdul Samad is a great finisher why SRH is ranked No. 2 by Pat Cummins has calmed the team down.
“Scoring 270 plus is just too much. It's like scoring 500 in a 50-over game. Thank God I'm not bowling. It shows how cricket has changed. Boundaries are fewer but grounds have been the same for 30 years. Hitting and abtting have changed.”
