As stalwart Indian cricketer Virat Kohli added another illustrious feather to his decorated cap, the sporting universe leaned in to praise his greatness. Kohli equaled Sachin Tendulkar’s record of scoring the most ODI tons and registered his 49th triple-digit score in the 2023 Cricket World Cup match against South Africa on Sunday. Seeing Virat equaling the great Tendulkar’s big milestone, veteran Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik highlighted an ‘interesting aspect’ in Kohli’s record, saying the latter’s tons have come in winning charities for the team.
“Words are not enough to praise Kohli. I have no doubt that he is the man who equaled the record today, the great Sachin Tendulkar. But there is something else interesting: his hundreds of match wins for his side. That is true what matters.” said Malik in a chat on A Sports.
“It’s a huge deal to earn a hundred; credit should be given for that. But besides that, if you win the game, there’s nothing more than that. Another interesting thing about Virat is that he assesses the circumstances well. Even if he gets out, it feels like one batsman played well and from one end the runs flowed, as we have seen in this World Cup,” he stated.
Malik also praised Kohli’s fitness, especially considering he was celebrating his 35th birthday but continues to bounce around the field like a 25-year-old.
“His physical fitness is next level. Today he celebrated his 35th birthday, but it feels like he is 25 years old when he runs between the wickets. So physical fitness is very important because that makes you consistent, like Kohli , you see him getting started after playing 50 overs.
“There is no difference with him. And he fields in the hotspots too. He is always there in important places and that is there when you are fit like Virat Kohli,” Malik claimed.
