A Tesla software engineer suffered serious injuries in an incident at the company's factory in Austin, Texas, when a defective robot intended for transporting aluminum car parts reportedly attacked him.
The incident, which took place two years ago, came to light in 2021 through an injury report.
As reported by the New York Post quote The information last month the robot restrained the engineer and caused injuries when its metal claws pierced his back and arm, resulting in a visible trail of blood on the factory floor.

The engineer was busy programming software for robots that had to cut car parts from newly cast aluminum pieces. During maintenance work on two disabled robots, a third unintentionally remained operational, which led to the incident two years ago, witnesses told De Informatie.
As reported by The informationthe engineer suffered a “crack” on his left hand. However, the injury did not require the employee to take time off work, indicating that the injury was not serious.

While no robot-related injuries have been documented at the Texas plant in 2021 or 2022, there is evidence of a safety culture within the plant. According to statements from current and former Tesla employees at the factory, the company habitually took shortcuts in construction, maintenance and operations, putting workers at risk, the report said.

Witness detailed incidents such as heavy machinery, including a crane, steel beam and air conditioning duct, falling near workers on automotive production lines. Subsequently, another worker suffered a head injury from a metal object, leading to an 85-day absence from work, as reported by The information.
Tesla employees also recounted examples of forklifts colliding with workers on the assembly floor.
