Mumbai/New Delhi:
Mumbai Police on Sunday arrested two gunmen who fired at actor Salman Khan's house in the city, officials said.
Vicky Sahab Gupta and Sagar Shrijogendra Pal – who hail from Bihar – were arrested from Gujarat's Bhuj last night.
The two men who came on a motorcycle fired four shots outside Bandra's Galaxy Apartments, where the actor lives, around 5am on Sunday morning and fled.
CCTV footage showed both suspects wearing caps and carrying backpacks. Additionally, the clip showed them shooting at the actor's house.
The suspect had bought a second-hand bicycle from Raigad district to reach Mr Khan's residence. They traveled to Mumbai on bicycles from Panvel, where they had been living for the past 22 days.
According to police sources, both men are part of the infamous Lawrence Bishnoi gang. Bishnoi is currently in Tihar jail for his involvement in several high-profile murder cases, including that of musician Sidhu Moose Wala and Rajput leader and Karni Sena chief Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi.
Following the gunfire incident outside Mr Khan's home, Anmol Bishnoi, Lawrence Bishnoi's brother, claimed responsibility in an online post, describing it as a “preview” and issuing a warning to the Bollywood actor.
The motorcycle, which was abandoned near Mount Mary Church, just over a kilometer from the actor's home, was registered to a man living in the Panvel area of Navi Mumbai, officials said.
The man had recently sold the two-wheeler, Assistant Commissioner of Police Panvel Ashok Rajput said.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has contacted the actor and given assurances of unwavering support and commitment to upholding the rule of law.
Police have added more personnel to Salman Khan's security team after the incident. The actor has also been asked to inform the Mumbai Police before leaving his house. He is advised to stay home unless something important is going on.
