Ashleigh Barty’s achievement of becoming the first Australian woman in 44 years to win the Australian Open title has cemented her place at the top of the WTA rankings. The 25-year-old has increased her lead over Belarus’ Aryna Sabalenka – who played in the fourth round of the Australian Open – to more than 2,600 points. Danielle Collins’ consolation for Barty’s loss in Saturday’s final is the highest ever for the 28-year-old American as she moves up 20 places to 10th. Poland’s Iga Swiatek — who defeated Collins in the Australian Open semifinals — has also risen to her all-time high, moving five places to fourth.
Barbora Krejcikova, the Czech Republic’s French Open champion, moves up one place to third.
There are different fortunes for two losers in the second round in Melbourne.
Spaniard Garbine Muguruza drops four places to seventh, while British US Open champion Emma Raducanu moves up five to her best ever ranking of 13th.
