Usman Ghani, the district president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Bikaner district of Rajasthan, was expelled from the party on April 24. He was reportedly arrested by the Rajasthan police, several reports claimed on Saturday.
Action has been taken against Ghani after he reportedly expressed his disapproval of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent comments in Rajasthan on the Muslim community. A video of him criticizing Prime Minister Modi on camera went viral earlier this week.
The Congress also used social media to promote the viral video.
What's in the viral video?
In the alleged video, the person, who claimed to be the district president of the BJP's Minority Morcha, said that “as a Muslim” he did not like PM Modi's comment during his speech in Rajasthan.
He could be heard saying that Prime Minister Modi is not the only member of the party and that “crores” of Muslims are joining the BJP.
He said that when he “goes to Muslims seeking votes” for the BJP, people from the community talk about the kind of comments made by the Prime Minister and “look for answers” from him.

The video shows him making the claims while speaking to a news channel. In the one-on-one interview, the person said he was a BJP district president from Bikaner. “I am Muslim and chairman of the minority Morcha,” he added.

Speaking at Banswara in Rajasthan, Prime Minister Modi had said that if the Congress comes to power, it would 'redistribute' wealth among Muslims. He had also alleged that the Congress is planning to give the people's hard-earned money and valuables to the 'infiltrators' and 'those who have more children'.
Usman Ghani was expelled and arrested
Usman Ghani was the district president of the Bikaner BJP Minority Morcha, news agency PTI reported. After Ghani's video surfaced on social media, BJP disciplinary committee chairman Onkar Singh Lakhawat said Usman Ghani had made an attempt to “tarnish” the party's image in the media.
“The party has taken notice of Usman Ghani's act to tarnish its image and has expelled him from the primary membership of the party for six years as it was a violation of discipline,” Lakhawat said in a statement quoted by PTI .
Three days later, on Saturday April 27, Hindustan reported that the Rajasthan police had arrested Ghani. He was detained on “charges of breach of the peace”, Patrick reported.
