Former Delhi Congress chief Arvinder Singh Lovely joined BJP on Friday – just days after resigning from the opposition party. The senior politician had previously insisted that he would “not join any political party” and simply resigned. Speculative reports quoting AAP and Congress leaders, meanwhile, had claimed that the BJP would field Lovely from the East Delhi constituency.
“We have been given an opportunity to fight for the people of Delhi under the banner of the BJP and under the leadership of the Prime Minister… I have full hope and no doubt that the BJP government will be formed in the country . by an overwhelming majority. In the coming days, the BJP flag will also fly in Delhi…,” Lovely said after his introduction.
He had earlier contested the 2019 Lok Sabha elections from East Delhi constituency against BJP leader Gautam Gambhir and AAP candidate Atishi. The former cricketer won the seat with 3.93 lakh votes, while Lovely trailed with 24% votes. Delhi will vote for seven Lok Sabha seats during the sixth phase on May 25.
