Congress leader Rahul Gandhi found himself at the center of a storm on Monday over his “Shakti” remarks at the closing ceremony of Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in Mumbai. In the heat of the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was quick to take exception to Rahul Gandhi's comment and slam the Congress leader for his remarks. After facing backlash, Rahul Gandhi on Monday issued a clarification and accused Prime Minister Modi of 'distorting' his remarks.
“Modi ji doesn't like my words, he always tries to change their meaning by twisting them somehow because he knows I have spoken a deep truth. The Shakti I mentioned, the Shakti we are fighting, is the mask of that power, Modi ji,” Rahul Gandhi said in a long post on X.
The developments prompted Rahul Gandhi's speech in Mumbai on Sunday, where he attacked the ruling BJP and Prime Minister Modi over several issues, including the allegations of tampering against electronic voting machines (EVM).
“There is a word 'Shakti' (power) in Hinduism. We are fighting against a Shakti (state power). The question is: what is that Shakti and what does it mean for us? The soul and integrity of EVMs have been traded to the king (Modi). This is a fact. Not just the EVMs, but every autonomous institution of the country, be it the ED, CBI or Income Tax department, has swapped its backbone to the Centre,” Rahul Gandhi said at the closing ceremony of Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra.
