As speculations swirl around Rahul Gandhi's possible candidature in the Amethi Lok Sabha polls, videos of renovations at his Amethi residence are creating excitement among UP Congressmen. Despite no official confirmation, workers are optimistic about his return to the traditional party stronghold that was lost to Smriti Irani in 2019. Gandhi's silence on investigations adds to the expectation.
Last week, Rahul Gandhi, along with Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav, answered the question, but in an ambiguous manner. He said: “Such decisions are made by our party's central election committee, and I will adhere to them.” This response was positively received by the party cadres in Amethi.
However, the Congress leadership says this is a normal routine before a top leader visits the constituency. Ex-MLC Deepak Singh, as quoted by Asianet News, said, “This is routine. Whether he contests the elections or not, he will definitely visit Amethi during the campaign time.”
Employees hired by the party are preparing for the upcoming elections. One of them mentioned that Rahul Bhaiya's arrival is expected soon, which will prompt cleaning and renovation work. Congress sources suggest announcements of candidates for prominent seats after Wayanad elections on April 26. Amethi's fifth phase elections on May 20 are awaited for further developments.
Smriti Irani, the sitting BJP MP for Amethi, took aim at Rahul Gandhi and his brother-in-law Robert Vadra, claiming that she had facilitated more development in the constituency in five years than Gandhi had in 15 years.
Meanwhile, Congress national spokesperson Abhay Dubey fired a salvo at Union Minister Smriti Irani on Thursday claiming that she would lose the constituency considered a stronghold of the grand old party before completing their winning streak there.
Dubey hit back at the BJP's barbs over Congress's delay in naming their pick from Amethi, amid persistent rumors that Rahul might enter the fray from the erstwhile Congress stronghold, saying that even a Congress worker will win from her if he gets a ticket for the match. Amethi.
