Hyderabad:
A day after Tesla chief Elon Musk tweeted that the electric car major is facing many challenges with the union government to launch its products in India, Telangana’s Industry Minister KT Rama Rao asked the US-based automaker for a shop in the southern state.
“Hello Elon, I am the Minister of Industry and Commerce of the State of Telangana in India. Will gladly take up the challenges of shopping in India/Telangana together with Tesla. Our state is a champion of sustainability initiatives and a premier business destination in India” , Mr Rama Rao tweeted Friday.
Last year, Tesla had requested a cut in tariffs on electric vehicles (EVs) in India.
The Ministry of Heavy Industry had asked the electric car major to start manufacturing its iconic electric vehicles in India first before tax breaks can be considered.
Central government sources had noted that they were not giving such concessions to any car company, and giving Tesla tax breaks will not send a good signal to other companies that have invested billions of dollars in India.
