Harvard scientists have discovered a cocktail of drugs that can be combined into a pill that can reverse aging, New York Post reported. A study called “Chemically Induced Reprogramming to Reverse Cellular Aging” was published by the researchers July 12 in the journal Aging.
The team discovered six chemical cocktails that reversed the aging process in skin cells from both humans and mice “by several years”.
Harvard researcher David Sinclair explained the same thing in a Twitter thread, writing: “Grateful to share our latest publication: We’ve previously shown that age reversal is possible by using gene therapy to turn on embryonic genes. Now we’re showing that it is possible with chemical cocktails, a step towards affordable whole-body rejuvenation.”

Notably, each chemical cocktail contained between five and seven agents, many of which are known to treat other physical and mental conditions. He added that he and his team at Harvard Medical School have been working for more than three years to find molecules that can combine to reverse cellular aging and rejuvenate human cells.
“Studies on the optic nerve, brain tissue, kidneys and muscles have shown promising results, with improved vision and extended lifespan in mice and most recently, in April this year, improved vision in monkeys,” the researcher continued to tweet.
“Preparations for human clinical trials of our first age-reversal gene therapy are underway,” Mr Sinclair said, noting that the first human clinical trials are currently scheduled to “start late next year”, assuming “all goes well”.
However, other scientists, including a Harvard professor, have warned that the study is “mostly hype and preliminary.”
