A Japanese tourist died after jumping from one of the world's highest bungee jumping platforms in China. The tourist died just a few hours later after becoming unconscious. The 56-year-old jumped 230 meters from the Macau Tower in Macau Municipality on Sunday, resulting in shortness of breath.
He was taken to Conde S. Januario Hospital for emergency treatment but was later pronounced dead. An investigation into the matter is underway.
On their website, Skypark by AJ Hackett, the company that manages the bungee jump and other attractions at the Macau Tower, advises customers to inform their staff of any medical concerns before participating in any of their activities. These include heart problems, hypertension, diabetes and previous surgical procedures.
One lap at Skypark by AJ Hackett, who performs the bungee jump at the facility, costs around Rs 25,000. The company also conducts bungee jumps in Australia, Singapore and France.
According to its website, it has successfully completed four million jumps over more than three decades and is very pleased with its “perfect safety record.”
Located in China, the Zhangjiajie Glass Bridge Bungee is the tallest platform in the world, surpassing the height of the Macau Tower.
In 2019, a man fell to the ground after his harness broke during a 100-meter bungee jump in Poland. The fall left the 39-year-old with a spinal cord injury. The accident took place at a theme park in Gdynia. Harrowing footage of the incident captured the moment the man's bungee rope broke, sending him to the ground after he jumped from a platform.
