Launch of Aditya L1: Following the meteoric success of Chandrayaan-3, the Indian Space Research Organization is all set to launch its mission to the sun. The launch is scheduled for September 2 at 11:50 am.
India’s first space mission to study the sun will carry a payload. On Thursday, ISRO Chairman S Somanath said the space agency was preparing for the launch and the launch countdown will begin on Friday. The solar mission is expected to launch at 11:50 a.m. on Sept. 2 from the Sriharikota spaceport in Andhra Pradesh. Read all about the mission here.
Target of the Aditya L1 mission
The Aditya-L1 spacecraft will enable remote observations of the solar corona and in situ observations of the solar wind at L1 (Sun-Eart Lagrangian point). The L1 point is about 1.5 million kilometers from Earth.
Notably, it will be the first dedicated Indian space mission for solar observations to be launched by the space agency headquartered in Bengaluru.
Somanath told reporters that the ISRO team is ready for the launch. He said the rocket and satellite are ready and pre-launch rehearsal has also been completed. So the Indian space agency will start the countdown for the day on Friday.
“Tomorrow we have to start counting down to the day after tomorrow’s launch,” Somanath told reporters on Friday.
The position of Aditya L1
Aditya-L1 will be placed in orbit around the L1 of the Sun-Earth system. The location will be a point of equilibrium for the gravity of the Sun and Earth. The position where the two gravitational forces cancel each other out allows objects to remain in a fixed position. This will also help reduce fuel consumption by the spacecraft.
