Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Delhi will be the home of newly promoted Punjab FC in the 2023-2024 Indian Super League (ISL) season, which begins on September 21. Last year’s champion Mohun Bagan Super Giant kicks off his campaign with a home game against debutants Punjab FC on September 23, while East Bengal hosts Jamshedpur FC two days later.
Punjab FC was promoted to the top ISL earlier this year after meeting all the criteria to obtain the Premier 1 license.
They chose the national capital’s Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, where the now-defunct Delhi Dynamos franchise had played their ISL home games, to meet licensing criteria.
The Punjab side also looked at other options including Transtadia Stadium in Ahmedabad before opting for Delhi’s JLN.
According to Asian Football Confederations (AFC) guidelines, ISL clubs must apply for an “ICLS Premier 1” license to participate in all AFC club competitions.
